Our design tips for small bathrooms

Designing a small bathroom can be a fun challenge! Here are some tips to help maximise space while keeping the room stylish and functional:

1. Use Light Colours

• Light shades, such as whites, light greys, or soft pastels, make a space feel more open and airy. Lighter walls and flooring reflect more light, which can visually enlarge the room.

2. Choose Space-Saving Fixtures

• Wall-mounted sinks and toilets: These create more floor space and make the bathroom feel less crowded.
• Compact vanities: Consider narrow or corner vanities with integrated storage to minimise the space used while maximising storage.
• Shower Niche: Instead of bulky shower caddies or shelves, incorporate built-in niches into the walls to store toiletries..

3. Opt for Clear Glass Shower Doors

• Clear or frameless glass shower doors make the bathroom feel more open, as they don’t create visual barriers. Avoid heavy curtains or opaque panels, as they can make the space feel smaller.

4. Use Vertical Storage

• Install shelves, tall cabinets, or hooks above eye level. This maximises vertical space and keeps your essentials organised without cluttering the floor.

5. Maximize Mirrors

• Mirrors not only serve a functional purpose but also reflect light and make a small space feel bigger. Consider placing a large mirror above the sink or a mirrored backsplash.

6. Minimalist Design

• Keep the decor simple and avoid overcrowding the space with too many accessories. Stick to a few carefully chosen items like plants, artwork, or candles.

7. Use Multi-Functional Furniture

• A mirrored cabinet that doubles as a storage space, or an integrated medicine cabinet in your mirror, can save space while keeping things organised.

8. Use Tiles with Vertical Patterns

• Vertical stripes or large tiles that run up the walls can create the illusion of height. This adds visual interest while helping the room feel taller.

9. Go for Floating Furniture

• Floating vanities, shelves, or even a floating toilet can add a sleek, modern touch while freeing up more floor space for a less cramped feel.

10. Add Natural Light (If Possible)

• If you have a window, make sure to keep it unobstructed. Natural light makes any space feel larger. Consider using sheer curtains to let light in without sacrificing privacy.

11. Be Mindful of the Flooring

• Large, continuous flooring tiles (without many grout lines) can help make the space feel more expansive. Use light, neutral-coloured flooring for a more open feel.

12. Consider Hidden Storage

• Make the most of your space by using clever, hidden storage solutions, like drawers under the sink or a storage cabinet that doubles as a mirror.

By thoughtfully combining these elements, you can make your small bathroom feel stylish, functional, and visually spacious.
